When the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth shared their need for yarn in July, they never imagined the response that would follow. Three months later, donations have arrived from near and far, filling their workspaces with colorful yarn and providing enough materials to continue their ministry well into the future.

On any given day at Nazareth, another bag, box, or package of yarn may still arrive. The generosity has been remarkable, and the Sisters are deeply grateful to everyone who answered their call.

Already, that generosity has produced wonderful results. Since July, five Sisters have completed 478 crocheted protective sleeves for water filters used by Water by Women to help families access clean drinking water. They have also provided 20 hats, 27 scarves, and five lap afghans to the Sister Visitor Center, along with seven scarves for Sisters returning to India.

These handmade items represent hours of work, but also the kindness of countless people who made that work possible. With such an abundance of materials now available, the Sisters can look forward to many more months of knitting and crocheting for people in need.

Thanks to the overwhelming response, additional donations of yarn are no longer needed at this time. The Sisters have received more than enough to keep their hands busy, and they are grateful for every contribution, large or small.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to these projects in any way,” said Sister Brenda Gonzales, SCN. “We continue to keep our fingers busy for the sake of those in need.”

To everyone who donated, shared the original story, encouraged a friend, or helped spread the word, thank you! Your kindness has made it possible for this simple but meaningful ministry to continue, one stitch at a time.
