SCNs made a commitment at the 2023 General Assembly to work for peace and ecological justice. Faith in Place, a non-profit multi-faith organization that works for environmental justice, is hosting a free online summit September 29-30 that turns to indigenous wisdom for awareness of and gratitude for the natural world. This summit features four speakers addressing the following topics:

Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer (keynote speaker): Author of the book Braiding Sweetgrass, Dr. Kimmerer will talk about the reciprocal relationship between humans and the natural world. Marrying scientific understanding with indigenous wisdom, she will guide us to embrace gratitude for our living world.

Dr. Randy Woodley: As co-founder of Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice, Dr. Woodley will explore the interwoven paths of Indigenous wisdom, faith, and Earth justice.

Dr. Carolyn Finney: She invites us to examine the histories that shape our relationships with land, race, and belonging in the United States. She will explore how the Earth and its stories hold us—and how, in return, we might become better kin to one another and to the land.

Lyanda Lynn Haupt: Ms. Haupt will guide us in exploring how the natural world sustains us—and how mindfulness in nature can support our spiritual and ecological resilience.
