In these days following the Solemnity of Pentecost, we have an opportunity to consider where the Holy Spirit is leading us and our communities. We are all sharing in the mission of Christ. Our Augustinian brother, Pope Leo XIV, offers us a consideration about how we can live this mission.

“The Holy Spirit… brings to maturity within us the fruits that enable us to cultivate good and healthy relationships: ‘love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control’ (Galatians 5:22). In this way, the Spirit broadens the borders of our relationships and opens us to the joy of fraternity. This is also a critical yardstick for the Church. For we are truly the Church of the Risen Lord and disciples of Pentecost if there are no borders or divisions among us; if we are able to dialogue and accept one another in the Church, and to reconcile our diversities; and if, as Church, we become a welcoming and hospitable place for all” (Homily for the Solemnity of Pentecost).

In these words, and many others that he has shared in his first month as our Holy Father, Pope Leo offers us a vision of solidarity and fraternity which leads to greater hope. During our 2025 National Assembly, we will dialogue and reflect on solidarity and fraternity as not only ways to live hope, but also reconciliation and peace. If you have already registered, we look forward to your presence and contributions to the conversation. If you have not, there is still time to do so. We even have an online option which will include an opportunity to dialogue with others who join in that way.

May these days following Pentecost be a reminder for us to continue the work of renewal and deeper commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ.

In prayerful solidarity,

Frank Donio, SAC
