From Sisters Who Refuse to Relinquish Love and who are praying for peace In preparation for the Feast of the Sacred Heart

Dear Friends and Family of the Sacred Heart,

As we come closer to the Feast of the Sacred Heart, we write with hearts full—full of grief, full of love, and full of fierce resolve. In a time when the world trembles under the weight of destabilized centers of power and systemic injustice, we gather our breath to remember: we are bearers of love. We are called not to languish in despair, but to rise in fidelity to the truth of our interconnectedness.

As we come to celebrate this sacred day—so central to our shared vocation—we also mourn. The bombing of Iran by the United States government weighs heavily on our spirits. Lives are being lost. Fear is multiplying. The spiral of violence continues, and the temptation to fall into either cynicism or silence pulls at us.

But we remember who we are. We hold love because we have been loved. We offer love because we have been shaped by it. We speak because we must not surrender our moral authority in this time of trembling.

The Sacred Heart is not a soft symbol. It is a fierce flame. It is the beating core of God’s presence amid woundedness, betrayal, and empire. This heart breaks—but does not turn away. It bleeds—but does not harden. And so must we.

We write to affirm our commitment to:

  • Stay grounded in the truth of relational dignity for all peoples.
  • Stand with the most vulnerable.
  • Speak with clarity, humility, and collective strength against the cycles of violence.
  • Root ourselves in prayerful discernment, and act with fierce compassion.

We echo the voices of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), “let us unite in prayer—asking for a deep outpouring of wisdom and sound judgment for all those whose choices in the coming days and weeks will carry global consequences.”

In this world that is blessed and broken, we bear witness to a Love that never relinquishes its claim on justice, on dignity, on peace.
