On August 6, the Feast of the Transfiguration, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity received an invitation from the Rachel and Mat Langer family to visit Lumen Christi Farm. Find here reflections from us who were blessed to experience this ‘Simple Faith’ adventure.
Sister Michelle Marie Ozuna comments: “By the light of Christ, Lumen Christi Farm truly grows more that food and faith, they grow hope! Sister Kathleen Murphy, Sister Julie Ann, Sister Elaine Turba, Sister Rose Reed and I were blessed to participate in their ‘Rosary Community Night!’
The evening started with a “living rosary” with music provided by Deacon Rich Bahnaman and the founding family of Lumen Christi Farm. It was so inspiring to see so many generations of family represented and active in their faith. The Rosary took place in the St. Isadore and Maria Chapel which seconded as a working barn space for the farm’s donkey. The rosary prayer was interactive and reverent and fun for all ages, children and adults alike represented each Hail Mary and Our Father prayer by turning on and holding a light in front of the beautiful and rustic altar.
After the living rosary a few of us decided to take the “Mini-Camino pilgrimage from the St. Isadore Chapel to the Job Chapel. The route took us through beautiful, covered paths that really provided a reflective experience. The mosquitos were not enough to deter us from reaching our destination to leave our prayer intention and rock.
Another great highlight was learning more about shepherding sheep. We were able to go out to the pasture and feed the 30 sheep living on the farm.
The evening concluded with more worship, community, music and snacks as we shared our treats and talked about the night’s festivities. It was such a familial experience and prayerful experience. I am really looking forward to the live nativity Lumen Farm will be hosting in December.
Lumen Christi Farm is truly a reflection of Christ alive in the hearts of many families. I left feeling hopeful for the living church and inspired to reflect Christ love even more.”
Sister Kathleen Murphy: “A Peaceful spirit of silence, joyful voices lifted in prayer, song and play, experience of artful creativity, the feel of sheep’s wool and the sounds of bleating goats and mewing kittens. These were among the joys of an evening shared with a group of vibrant believers at Lumen Christi Farm. What a beautiful combination of God’s gifts in nature and in people alive with faith!”
