National health experts are now saying that the threat/risk of COVID-19 is likely to persist well into May. As you’re aware, the current pandemic requires us to be vigilant and attentive to the needs of our sisters and brothers and the common good.
That is why, after thoughtful and prayerful consideration, RFC has decided to postpone the May 28-June 5 ForMission session and reschedule it for August 13-22, 2020 at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
Formation ministers currently in the second year of their two-year ForMission process and those who recently applied to the begin program will or have already received individual letters communicating strategies for going forward.
We recognize that changing dates for a program that has been on the calendar and planned 1-2 years in advance may require a bit of juggling and re-arranging of one’s plans. This is not necessarily an easy or convenient choice to make. Yet, the Conference seeks to honor its commitment to provide quality programs to and for its members. ForMission is rooted in relationship, fosters growth as a community of peers who are both learners and teachers, and recognizes the gift and necessity of sharing a spirit of accompaniment. Ultimately, it is the commitment of participants in the program to be present and actively participate (there are of course circumstances beyond one’s control that necessitate exceptions) in residential sessions and complete at-home assignments.
Ordinarily new applicants are received annually into the ForMission program during the May-June residential session. With the change of dates to August, the application process for new participants remains open until June 12, 2020. Application materials can be requested by inquirying online or contacting Connie Schoen, OP, Program Director, by email at cschoen@relforcon.org.
We will continue to monitor progress addressing COVID-19 nationally and internationally and make future decisions regarding RFC scheduled programs in light of relevant data. The Conference is grateful for your flexibility as we make our way together in this uncertain time.
If you have any questions about the rescheduled ForMission program, or are interested in joining the new group that will begin in August, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Connie Schoen, OP, Program Director, via email at cschoen@relforcon.org.
