Marilyn Garry was born January 29, 1934, to Thelma (Haynes) and L.E Garry in Huron, SD. She graduated from Huron High School, entered Presentation Convent on September 8, 1952 and professed vows on August 10, 1955, receiving her religious name of Sister Paulette.

Sister Paulette earned a teaching certificate from Presentation College, Aberdeen, SD, a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Education from Northern State University, Aberdeen, SD.

Sister Paulette’s dedication and love of education was evident throughout her life, often referring to her students as “cherubs.” For over 45 years, she shared her warm smile and enthusiasm for learning with elementary and junior high school students in Catholic Schools in Mound and Willmar, MN; Madison, Woonsocket, Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Dell Rapids, and as Principal of Sacred Heart, Aberdeen, SD, 1972-1978. Sister Paulette returned to Presentation Convent in Aberdeen for retirement and continued her calling of serving others as the Community Life and Hospitality Director, Sacristan and as a member of the Sisters’ Care Team.

Caring for others was evident daily as she welcomed everyone with a hospitable and joyful spirit. She loved visiting with her family and friends, playing Bingo, Dominoes and solving challenging Sudoku puzzles, and above all, laughing and enjoying life. Sister Paulette reminded those she met to: “Cherish who you are as sons and daughters of God, as you have been gifted with enormous potential for bringing love and laughter to the world.” Sister Paulette’s big, bright, beautiful, welcoming smile and personality will be missed by all.

Sister Paulette is survived by her family of Presentation Sisters, her sister, Donna Williams, her sister-in-law, Sharon Clarke, her brother-in-law, Galen Gruver and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
