The Nazareth fan giveaway, held on Wednesday, June 18, wrapped up the 2025 Kentucky Gives Day campaign with a reprieve from the summer heat. Dedicated volunteers, Sisters and Nazareth staff gathered together at the Holy Family Circle at the Nazareth Motherhouse Campus Wednesday afternoon as cars queued up along Main Avenue. Thanks to the support of generous donors, 600 box fans were distributed to area residents. The volunteers and Sisters handed out the fans to each vehicle, along with prayer cards with a special summer prayer.

May you walk with God this summer.

May the breeze from this fan refresh and renew you.

May you be blessed with a safe, enjoyable summer

Knowing that God loves you,

and that,

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth will be praying for you.

This was the second year the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth gave out box fans for summer. With temperatures rising and many households lacking air conditioning, this initiative offers a practical response. Box fans use approximately 90% less energy than central air units, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, making them an affordable and accessible cooling option for those most at risk.

“It’s easy to forget the impact of extreme heat when you’re moving from one air-conditioned space to another,” said Spalding Hurst, Director of Mission Advancement. “But for families without that access, this small gesture can protect health and provide real relief. That’s what we’re aiming for.”

The fan drive reflects the Congregation’s commitment to ecological sustainability, care for the vulnerable, and living out the Gospel call to serve — local action in response to urgent needs.
