The Pacific Northwest Member Area of the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC) and the RFC met at St. Placid Priory in Lacey, WA April 30-May 2 to connect and collaborate, pray and learn together. Vocation and formation ministers from the area gathered for mutual sharing, listening and support.
Their time together included a presentation by Mary Pat Garvin, RSM, PhD titled Well-Being: Gift to Self and Others. The session included opportunities for the group to share with each other and identify best practices and resources. Sister Mary Pat's presentation included input around:
- defining well-being
- the roles of supervision, peer supervision, spiritual direction, and mentoring
- a focus on the topics of burn-out, brown-out, and compassion fatigue
- an emphasis on post-traumatic growth and resilience
In addition to Sister Mary Pat's session, prayer and networking, the group also discussed their membership / dues structure, ideas for future programming and collaboration, and a handful of other business items.
We are grateful to the Benedictine Sisters of St. Placid for their wonderful hospitality. It was a delight to join the congregation for prayer and get to know them better. We thank leaders from the NRVC for planning this year's convening. Next year RFC members will take the lead in planning the event.
