IHM Gallery welcomed home Monroe artist Presley Bergmooser for Performative
The IHM Motherhouse Gallery welcomed guests on July 23 for the opening reception of Performative, the first solo exhibition by Monroe native and muralist Presley Bergmooser.
The exhibit marked a homecoming for Bergmooser, a self-taught artist and Michigan State University alum whose work has gained recognition through live events, public murals and community-centered projects. As the founder of PRESLEYMADEIT, she has created art for weddings, corporate activations and public spaces while sharing her creative process with audiences online.
In Performative, Bergmooser reflected on the assumptions often placed on her work, image and identity. Through the exhibition, she reclaimed the gestures that had been dismissed as attention-seeking, reframing them as expressions of authorship, authenticity and the belief that creativity should not always be taken so seriously.
Visitors gathered to meet the artist, explore the thought-provoking collection and celebrate the opening of the exhibition, which remains on display in the IHM Motherhouse Gallery through Sept. 9. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
