Justice and Peace Issues

This month we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the publication of Laudato Si‘. Here is a message from the Laudato Si’ Movement as one-hundred and thirty-three cardinals from seventy-one countries gather to elect the successor to Pope Francis.

A MESSAGE from the LAUDATO SI’ MOVEMENTWe pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in the conclave that is meeting in Rome. At this moment of continuity, we reflect on the many ways that our Church has honored care for creation throughout its millennia of existence. St. Francis of Assisi left us the wonderful gift of seeing our heavenly Creator through the gifts of creation: “Praised be You, my Lord, with all your creatures.” St. John Paul II encouraged us to transform our love of Creator into action for creation:“We must therefore encourage and support the ‘ecological conversion’ which in recent decades has made humanity more sensitive to the catastrophe to which it has been heading.” As we reflect on how this long tradition will continue through this present moment, we invite you to join us in praying:Holy Spirit, come.Dwell in the heart of the conclave.Bring Your righteous peace to this sacred momentSo that Your will might be doneIn this moment and for the years to come. Amen.Yours in faith,Christina LeañoAssociate Director, Laudato Si’ Movement
