SC Federation Hosts Annual Meeting in Moncton, New Brunswick
The Sisters of Charity Federation Annual Meeting took place June 2-5 in Moncton, New Brunswick, hosted by the Sisters of Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Cœur. With the theme “Charity: Igniting Hope, Inspiring Action,” the gathering brought together leaders from the Federation’s 14 member congregations for prayer, reflection, and meaningful dialogue.
The opening ritual set a reflective tone, drawing from John 21 and the song “Pilgrims of Hope,” as participants lit candles symbolizing the Federation’s shared mission rooted in the legacy of Saints Vincent de Paul, Louise de Marillac, and Elizabeth Ann Seton. Over the course of four days, leaders explored the synodal process, reflected on the future structure and direction of the Federation, and heard a powerful presentation from Jimmy Walters, NGO representative at the United Nations, on global housing and water insecurity. His call was clear: our mission must include advocacy rooted in compassion and justice.
Additional highlights included visits to culturally significant sites such as Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral and the Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Cœur Motherhouse, and inspiring performances by local youth musicians. The gathering concluded with expressions of gratitude, including a heartfelt farewell to outgoing Executive Director S. Grace Hartzog, whose leadership has guided the Federation for the past eight years.
With full and grateful hearts, those attending departed Moncton ready to carry the charism of charity forward with courage, hope, and a collaborative vision.
