The Belize City SCNAs gathered for their monthly meeting a couple of months ago and discussed how they would reach out to the community in need. Since many organizations and people were helping out around Christmas, they decided to put their service off until around Valentine’s Day.

Since one of the Associates, Emelita Reyes lives in the village of Maskall she brought to the attention of the Associates some elderly people in her community who needed assistance with groceries and supplies. The associates were delighted and enthused in offering assistance. Each member took money out of their own pockets to create a hamper that included goods that did not need to be cooked. They were told that several of them did not have stoves to cook on. The hamper included corn flakes, powdered milk, chocolate powder, brown sugar, canned sausages, box cheese, condensed milk, crackers, sardines, sliced bread, sweet bread, bananas, socks, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, soap powder, Clorox, lotion, comb, brush, and a wash cloth. They gathered and packed off 12 of these hampers.

On Saturday the 21st. All who were able to make it packed up the cars and drove to Maskall village, an hour and a half drive from the city. There, the Associates from Belize City met up with Emelita and a friend of hers who took the group to the homes of the elderly. The Associates presented them with the bags, read a scripture quote, and sang songs with each one. They cherished the interaction and connection made.

After all the deliveries, they gathered at Emelita’s house for a short prayer and lunch.
