On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of St. John Baptist de La Salle as Universal Patron of Educators which took place last 15 May, the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools launched in October 2024 the Being an Educator Today” Contest with the purpose of “making visible the inspiring legacy of St. John Baptist de La Salle for educators worldwide”.

The Contest, promoted by the Office of Lasallian Heritage and Research, together with the Institute’s Office of Information and Communication, has invited Lasallian students and educators from around the world to take part in different categories.

To all the Lasallians who sent in their work – some in the form of photography and others in the form of video, as established in the Contest rules – we extend the thanks of the International Jury which was entrusted with the important task of evaluating all the entries. 

We are also pleased to congratulate the winners of the Contest:

Category A

First place: Not awarded.

Second place: Not awarded.

Category B 

First place: “La mujer nunca deja de educar” (“Women never stop educating”) – Génesis Anahi Núñez Minchala | Ecuador (District Norandino) | La Salle Conocoto.

Second place: “Le livre de lumière” (“The Book of Light”) – Project by Majed Alam with the support of teachers Ms Cédra Abi Karam and Ms. Marie Kehdy, and a team of students from the S2S class | Lebanon (Proche Orient District) | Collège Saint Pierre Baskinta.

Category C 

First place: “Sara” – Edison Tamayo Castaño | Colombia (District Norandino) | La Salle Envigado.

Second place: “Octopus” – Emon Frédéric | France (District of France and French-Speaking Europe) | La Salle Notre Dame de la Gare.

The winners will receive a commemorative medal for the 75th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Saint John Baptist de La Salle as Universal Patron of Educators, as well as a donation to the Lasallian school or educational institution to which he or she belongs, equivalent to 500 euros for first place and 250 euros for second place.

The winning entries will soon be shared on the website https://www.lasalle.org/en/being-an-educator-today-contest/. They will subsequently form part of a publication commemorating the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of Saint John Baptist de La Salle as Universal Patron of Educators.

The Jury for the competition was composed of Brother Chris Patiño, member of the General Council, Mrs. Coreen Paul, President of CIAMEL, Brother David García, Organisational Coordinator of the Institute, who also acted as coordinator of the jury, Dr. Josep Ferrando, Director of the School of Architecture of the Campus La Salle Barcelona, and Ms. Giulia Giannarini, from the Office of Information and Communication of the Generalate, whom we also thank for their generous contribution and collaboration in this initiative to exalt the legacy of Saint John Baptist de La Salle to educators of all times.
