Sister Marjorie M. (Herberdette) Heidkamp, BVM, 90, of Mount Carmel Bluffs, 1160 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 1-1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, in the Mary Frances Clarke Chapel at Mount Carmel Bluffs. Rite of Committal for natural burial is at 1:30 p.m. Burial is in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Memorial services will be on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, in the Mary Frances Chapel. Sharing of Memories will be 1:30-2:30 p.m., followed immediately by a Memorial Mass at 2:30 p.m. All services may be viewed through livestream at https://stream.prestosports.com/bvmsisters.
Sister Marjorie was an elementary teacher in Sioux City, Iowa; Chicago; and Antioch, Ill. She ministered as director of religious education in Antioch and Schiller Park, Ill., and religious educator, hospital and hospice chaplain, and library staff member in Chicago. She served the congregation as admissions director and health coordinator.
She was born March 6, 1934, in Chicago to Herbert and Mary Cecilia (Toner) Heidkamp. She entered the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1952, from Queen of Angels Parish in Chicago. She professed first vows on March 19, 1955, and final vows on July 16, 1960.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Herbert J. (Mary Ann), Robert (Barbara), Francis (Rosemary), and Philip (Jean) Heidkamp, and sisters Rosemary (Jack) Cramer and Mary Louise (Joseph) McCall. She is survived by brother Jerome (Donna) Heidkamp, Naperville, Ill., and nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 72 years.
